2/21/2021 - Let's Go and Make Disciples

First Sunday in Lent

This Sunday we pause from our regularly scheduled programming to bring you a word of encouragement.  Today we will concentrate on carrying out mission work.

Oftentimes people assume mission work involves knocking on doors or sending out flyers.  Maybe it involves targeted marketing on Facebook or a flashy YouTube channel.  It can look like that, yes, but more often it looks like a father reading a devotion to his children.  It looks like a mother singing a hymn, or a family committing to regular Sunday worship together.  It looks like a Christian showing concern for their neighbor whose house was vandalized, or an employee inviting a coworker to the men's breakfast.

Today's lessons underscore the point that while mission work may look different from person to person.  That may mean addressing our brother with frank conversation about their decisions, the course of their life, or a path they've chosen that has departed from God's design.  Mission work always has the best interests of our brother's soul in mind.  It begins with a conversation about life.  Most importantly, it shares the hope of life everlasting in Christ.

When the eunuch questioned Philip about a Bible passage, Philip eagerly shared the word.  After their conversation, it led to a baptism!  Peter encouraged his audience to always be prepared to give the reason for the hope you have.  Peter would know!  His brother Andrew shared the hope he had when he originally found the Messiah, and brought Peter to Jesus.

"My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins" (James 5:19-20).

God bless your worship.
